BicycleColorado.org

BicycleColorado.org helped get this accomplished for Colorado cyclists: "...the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians shall be included in the planning, design, and operation of transportation facilities, as a matter of routine..."

New Colorado law,
 good intention,
  BAD result
   and my solution
  • Here in Colorado, Lance Armstrong and Colorado Governor Bill Ritter sponsored a new law that took effect August 2009 = motor vehicle traffic must pass at least three feet to the left of a cyclist.
  • WHY???:
Both Lance Armstrong and Gov. Bill Ritter
          bicycle in Colorado
and they want to keep cars and trucks away from themsleves.
Too bad they chose to fail to understand
        the two root causes of the problem with cycling in Colorado;
    • some cyclists drive their bicycle like it is a toy
      - giving the appearance that all cyclists are reckless, and
    • Colorado's roads were designed for a population
less than 20% of what it is now
  • PROBLEM: THAT MAKES COLORADO'S NARROW, LIMITED VISIBILITY ROADS 3 TO MORE THAN 6 FEET NARROWER
= MAKES A BAD SITUATION A LOT WORSE.
  • SOLUTION: use Federal stimulus money to create new jobs to fix Colorado's problem with it's poorly designed roads.
  • My Efforts to fix this mess

Proposed change to
American Cycling Associaion's
rule 5.4
Rules 5.4.1 thru 5.4.5 govern entry fees.  There are significant problems with these rules, with largest problem being their inablility to properly manage the the price elasticity of demand as it relates to entry fees.  Currently the demand, for all practical purposes, is price inelastic.  Click Here
Cherry Creek bike path speed limits done wrong
  1. The Creek bike path ( CCBP ) helps cyclists travel through the Denver, Colorado area with only minimal contact with vehicular traffic.  Most cyclist use the path responsibly and safely.  A few do not, they cause crashes that are sometimes fatal.  These bad apples are known as Ride the Rockies Geeks.
  2. The speed limit on most of the CCBP is 15mph, other parts it's 30 or 35mph.
  3. The "Ride the Rockies Geeks" have trouble going faster than 15mph.
  4. The Police have decided that they can improve safety by ticketing anyone going faster than 20mph.  In other words, the Police have decided they can improve safety by ignoring the problem cyclists and ticketing the safe cyclists.
Water skiing without a boat! April 2009 I am out for a 4 hour ride, it's 45 degrees outside and raining off and on. I came across 4 guys who had tied a high speed winch to a tree so they could take turns water sking across a pond!

Broken crank arm pictures During an indoor trainer ride on April 7, 2009 the right crank arm broke.

Click for Pictures:  Broken crank arm       Scraped ankle.

The bike was crashed once in July 1999 and retired to being my indoor trainer bike in March 2000.  Although the crash in 1999 ocurred with me going zero mph - a crash spilled across the road, like dominos, from my right to left.  I was next to the left curb and I sat down on the curb when the crash got to me.
