| Overview |
Colorado's "Galloping Geese" trains are made from automobiles; Buick, Pierce-Arrow, Ford, and Wayne. They were used in southwestern Colorado to move people and mail up to 160 miles because they cost less to operate than a heavier train. There are seven geese in the flock. The heaviest is 5 tons, the lightest is 2 1/2 tons. Very light compared to the Georgetown Loop railway whose engines weight 20+ tons because they hauled much heavier loads. We rode the Georgetown Loop train last summer and it was also a lot of fun! All seven geese will be migrating to the Colorado Railroad Museum for a reunion. |
